Trinidad and Tobago’s Finance Minister Davendranath Tancoo has raised serious concerns over the US$950,000 foreign exchange payment reportedly made to Vybz Kartel in connection with the One Caribbean Music Festival (OCMF).
🗣️ “I’m intrigued by the quantum of foreign exchange being mentioned in the public domain and will be requesting an investigation to determine the legitimacy and source of these funds,” Tancoo stated.
His remarks follow growing public outrage after the headline act did not perform. Fans are now demanding transparency—and refunds.
Meanwhile, the organizers maintain that over US$1.1 million was paid to Kartel and his team.
💬 What do you think? Should there be a deeper audit into artist payments and event promoters in T&T?
amaican entertainer Vybz Kartel has apologised to the people of Trinidad and Tobago after pulling out of the One Caribbean Music Festival at the Queen’s Park Savannah on Saturday night.
However, in a social media post explaining his decision, Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, placed blame squarely on the shoulders of the promoter, who he said did not know how to manage a Kartel show, and also showed scant regard for T&T’s culture.
Following his pullout, Ghanaian-American artiste Moliy also withdrew from the concert citing issues with the promoter.
