DJ SMOKE IS DEAD

Disc jockey Ryan Williams, popularly known as DJ Smoke, is dead.

News emerged on Thursday that Williams, who had been battling a heart condition, passed away.

Veteran sound system selector Tony Matterhorn reacted to the news.

“Smoke was one of the most decent yutes in the dancehall space, when you see him, him always have a smirk or a smile on his face…yu never see him a cuss or nothing. Condolences to his family,” Tony Matterhorn told ONE876NEWS.

Williams was diagnosed with a heart condition – believed to be hereditary – in 2019. In 2022, the DJ appealed to the public to assist him in getting a quadruple bypass surgery. At the time, a GoFundMe campaign was launched to help raise the US$15,703 ($2.4 million) needed for the operation.

It is unclear if he had ever done the operation. He was initially set to have an angioplasty to surgically repair and unblock the coronary arteries, and a successful staging of Togetherness Fête, which doubled as a fundraiser for the cause, had raised funds for that procedure.
