Blvk H3ro, Cen’c Love breathe new life into Bunny Wailer’s ‘Fig Tree’

Bunny Wailer’s musical roots are reaching a new generation as reggae artiste Blvk H3ro and the late legend’s daughter, Cen’c Love, join forces on a fresh interpretation of ‘Fig Tree’.

Recorded in Trench Town, the song revisits a track from Wailer’s celebrated Blackheart Man album, preserving its message of freedom, African identity and self-determination while bringing two contemporary voices to the recording.

Blvk H3ro takes the lead, with Cen’c Love adding her soulful vocals and a direct family connection to the song’s creator. Maxine Stowe, Dave Green and Jermaine Williams produced the recording.

“The single is the first release from Rastaman 50, a conceptual album by The Wailers Trio marking the half-century of three pivotal solo records released in 1976: Bunny Wailer’s Blackheart Man, Peter Tosh’s Legalize It and Bob Marley’s Rastaman Vibration,” music executive Maxine Stowe said.

Scheduled for release on November 6, 2026, Rastaman 50 brings together contemporary interpretations of selections from those three albums, alongside earlier material from the Wailers’ Upsetter period. Blvk H3ro, Dahvid Slur, J Written and Cen’c Love are among the Kingston creatives featured.

For Cen’c Love, the project offers an opportunity to carry her father’s message forward through her own voice. She joins the Trio configuration in the place previously occupied by Abijah Livingston, maintaining the Livingston family’s musical connection alongside the community-based artistes involved.

Blvk H3ro’s participation also draws on his direct relationship with Bunny Wailer, giving the collaboration a personal foundation as well as a musical one.

The album’s release falls within the anniversary period of Emperor Haile Selassie I’s 1930 coronation in Ethiopia, an occasion of deep spiritual and historical significance to Rastafari.

That connection runs through the project. The Wailers’ music helped carry Rastafari’s resistance to oppression, affirmation of African identity and call for liberation from Jamaica to audiences around the world. ‘Fig Tree’ brings those ideas into a contemporary recording while retaining its connection to that history.

The project will subsequently turn its attention to ‘Dreamland’, extending its association with the Blackheart Man 50th-anniversary campaign.

“That subsequent focus will build on Cen’c Love’s collaboration with Blvk H3ro on ‘Fig Tree’ and the album’s relationship with her father’s work,” Stowe said.
