UK-based recording artiste Kenn Willis has teamed up with Predator to push the promotion of his latest single, Hustle in the streets of the Corporate Area. The Top Keys promotional team hit Boom Sundays and Uptown Mondays and shelled out a large sum of money to the resident dancers in both events .
“The dancers rolled out, they danced up a storm and the streets are really behind this song, the hustlers especially love the song because it speaks to the Hustle of life. Boom Boom respected the gesture made by Ken Williams, the CEO of Top Keys Records, ” manager Wayne South said.
“Kenn is an entrepreneur himself so he recognizes that there are a lot of honest hard-working entrepreneurs that face challenges and still persevere.”
Dancers such as Pata Skeng, Energy, Lookalike, Boyzie and Caan Tired have all thrown their support behind the ‘Hustle’ song which will be available on all platforms this week.
A music video showcasing the in-the-streets reaction to the song, coupled with appearances by social media personalities Jerry and Peanut Dread, as well as comedian Fancy Cat, will accompany the single.
“This song is just the first of a number of releases that I will be putting out straight through the summer. I have follow up singles such as Rainy Weather and a collaboration with Richie Spice as well,” Kenn Willis said.
Growing up in the parish of St. Catherine Ken Wiliams attended Watermount All-Age School where he first got involved in music through street ministry singing gospel standards and classics with the support of his grandmother.
“I was always very talented and the pastor used to let me lead worship. The first few times, it was a bit scary at the time but you know I developed that brave heart to do it because I really loved to perform,” he reminisced.
He later migrated to live in the United Kingdom. However, his love for music never waned.
In 2005, he started taking music on a different level when he started going to church again, this time worshipping at the Church of God of Prophecy in Kitto Road in London where he fine tuned his unique reggae-gospel sound.
He released his first song, First Time, soon afterwards. Kenn Willis followed up that effort with Believing, a gospel-reggae song that wowed his peers, and stoked his belief that music was his true calling.
Inspired, he then began to experiment with different musical styles, working with well-known producers Governor Shine, Fluxi and Mafia. He also collaborated with talented musicians based at Stingray Studio in London.
He was christened Kenn Willis by one of his musical associates, Governor Shine.
“When I researched the name online, I saw another Ken Willis, but then I just put a double N on my name and just continued with that nickname you know at first some people used to call me King Excellence but I didn’t like the name still so I’m stuck with Kenn Willis,” he said.
Kenn Willis has a number of projects in the pipeline including a collaboration with Lou Shionna plus collaborative singles with Predator. Another standout song is the ultra-creative Goosebumps. He will be releasing these songs.
Some of the songs will be included on his upcoming EP.
“I’m a multi-talented artist. I can sing any kind of genre, my songs are sweet, meaningful, and melodic, Kenn Willis is going to take over the world, 100% no doubt,” he said.
No doubt.
