CHICKEN FRENZY: Police fight large unruly crowds at KFC locations

There was a mixture of chaos and excitement across several KFC locations in Jamaica and police had to be called in to maintain order at the franchises in Old Harbour, Montego Bay and  in Linstead, St Catherine this morning. 


There was a report that one man was shot and injured at the KFC location in the Rockfort area in east Kingston. There were reports that several security guards were beaten up as impatient crowds got increasingly angry at the long, interminable wait. Traffic was snarled as motorists joined lines as long as a mile to get into the franchises all over the country.

The Constabulary Communication Unit denied that there were reports that a man was shot during an altercation with another man while waiting in the queue of persons outside the KFC franchise in Rockfort, in east Kingston.

However, there were unconfirmed reports of scuffles and fights and broken glass as crowds fought to gain entrance to get their favourite fast food delight.

“Today is a day of shame that will live in infamy for years to come. Look at how people behave over free chicken,” one woman observed

“People ah cuss over two little piece of chicken, people spend six hours in line for two pieces of chicken?it’s a national disgrace,” another Jamaican said.

Hundreds of excited persons converged on the KFC restaurant to benefit from today’s chicken giveaway as they were anxious to take advantage of the deal, with some even lining up before the restaurants opened.
As a special promotion for its 50th anniversary, KFC is offering a free two-piece meal with the purchase of a three-piece meal. Some eager customers turned up as early as 5 a.m. and braved the sweltering heat to get a number to enter the store.
