Kranium trashes Caribbean Music Award after same award given to Dexta Daps

Dancehall fusion artiste Kranium trashed his Caribbean Music Awards trophy in a garbage bin, following a heated rant over the organizers allegedly taking back his award for R&B Dancehall Artiste Of The Year (and handing it to fellow artist Dexta Daps.)

In a post shared on social media, Kranium filmed himself tossing the award into the garbage, captioning the clip: “@caribmusicawards garbage is on Tuesdays… a it this me done with the conversation.”

A major brouhaha had been brewing in the wake of the recently staged Caribbean Music Awards (CMA) as dancehall singer Kranium accused the organisers of disrespecting him, and showing favouritism to fellow artiste Dexta Daps. Kranium sought to end the storm of heated comments with an exclamation mark by tossing his award in the trash.

The Nobody Has to Know artiste claimed that he was awarded ‘Caribbean R & B Artiste of the Year’ only to have the award unceremoniously taken from him and handed to Dexta Daps a few days later.

On Monday, the incensed artiste found himself in the eye of a storm of criticism after he shared a photo on Instagram captioned: “Caribbean Music Award y’all are one set a p_____s and users !!! @caribmusicawards.”

The post had mixed views and ignited vitriolic comments from dancehall fans.

One user wrote: “Seems like an honest mistake, bcuz most people don’t think of Kanium when when think of Caribbean RNB artiste, especially in dancehall. I get his frustration because it’s embarrassing, but…anywhoo”.

Another chimed in: “Let’s be real! Dexta is the king of R&B dancehall. Idk anyone who jumped up for kranium. He has good songs but dexta give life to his songs.”

Others, however, appeared to commiserate with Kranium, weighing in by saying: One of the most talented and underrated this man makes straight hit records 🔥🔥🔥

Another levelled his ire at the CMA organisers by adding: a big f$#@ry dem do eh nuh’.

The awards show, which aired on BET on 12 September, was billed as a premier platform dedicated to recognising Caribbean music and culture. Kranium, however, said the actions of the organisers had left him “humiliated” and “disrespected”.

Pierre Bost, Kranium’s manager, who has been working as a co-manager for Kranium since 2013, said he had “never seen anything like this before”.

He gave a recap of what happened behind the scenes at the Caribbean Music Award.

“The award took place on August 28th in NYC, Kranium attended the award ceremony to perform ” Higher Life ” and because he was nominated in 5 categories, one of the artistes who was the most nominated this year,” Bost said.

Those categories are as follows.

Male Dancehall Artist of the year
Caribbean R&B Artist of the year
Dancehall song of the year (Higher Life feat. Chronic Law)
Dancehall collaboration of the year (Higher Life feat. Chronic Law)
Reggae Dancehall Video of the year (Higher Life feat. Chronic Law)

Bost said that what unfolded on the night was tantamount to sheer disrespect as the CMA clumsily botched that area of the award ceremony.

“On the night Kranium delivered a great performance as usual and won ” Caribbean R&B Artist of the year ” Award – He collected his award on stage in front of all the industry people present in the packed Brooklyn venue,” Bost said.

Bost said that days after the award ceremony, Kranium received a phone call from the Caribbean Music Award team with Dexta Daps on the call saying that a mistake was made.

“The award should have gone to Dexta Daps and they gave him some nonsense arguments to explain the situation. We all know that it wasn’t a mistake – BET already contacted us to license the track for Tv rights . Then the Caribbean Music Award team offered to Kranium to give back this award to Dexta Daps and they would give Kranium a different award for ” Best Caribbean R&B song of the year ” – a category that doesn’t exist, where Kranium was not nominated for and they also had to remove Kranium from the BET show collecting his award,” Bost explained.
