1syde fans are all asking ‘Who is Melissa Mais?’ in the wake of news emerging that dancehall star Masicka is currently facing a copyright dispute involving songwriter Melissa Mais who claims to have written several of his hit songs, leading to their removal from YouTube. The songs were removed after Mais submitted a Digital Millennium Copyright Act takedown notice to YouTube concerning the recordings.
The songs involved in the allegation are “Whites,” “Scope,” “Mute,” and “Rich s&x”.
The claimant alleges she wrote the songs in May 2023, while she was incarcerated at the time of their release.
A legal notice was sent to OneRPM regarding these, and the woman claims to have submitted a removal request to YouTube. The situation involves allegations of copyright infringement, breach of a verbal contract, As of March 11, 2026, the songs were reportedly removed from YouTube.
Details of the dispute surfaced on Tuesday after an email addressed to the copyright and legal department of ONErpm began circulating online. Mais asserted that the songs were written and created by her on May 4, 2023 while in custody. She stated that the material was later released and commercially exploited without her consent or authorisation in connection with Masicka.
According to the email, Mais claims that ‘Whites’ was written largely by her, including most of the lyrics, melody and creative direction for the music video.
She alleged that a verbal agreement had been made regarding the use of the music and said an audio recording exists in which she stated that compensation would be required if the songs were used.
Mais further argued that the situation represents copyright infringement, breach of a verbal contract and unjust enrichment through the unauthorised use of her intellectual property.
Masicka has not publicly responded to the claims.
The songs are still available on Spotify and Apple Music.
