Moliy soars with ‘Shake it to the Max (Fly)’

MOLIY, Silent Addy, Skillibeng, and Shenseea’s “Shake It To The Max (Fly)” continues to etch history on the Billboard Hot 100, clocking its 17th consecutive week on the chart at No. 89 after peaking at No. 44 in July. This achievement makes it the longest Hot 100 run for a single by a female Jamaican artist in nine years.

As the song is not listed as a feature, Shenseea becomes the first Jamaican woman to chart for 17 weeks on a leader this century.

The last time a Jamaican woman sustained such chart endurance was in 2016, when Nyla of Brick & Lace spent 20 weeks on the Hot 100 with Major Lazer and Fuse ODG on the international hit “Light It Up.” That track debuted on April 2, 2016, peaked at No. 73, and became one of the era’s defining dancehall-pop crossovers.

The Billboard Hot 100 has historically seen few appearances by Jamaican women, making each run highly significant. Last Saw currently hold the 30 week record for the longest chart appearance by a Jamaican in the 21st century.

In the mid-1990s, artists like Patra and Diana King carried the torch. If “Shake It To The Max (Fly)” stays on the chart for another four weeks, it could will surpass Nyla’s 20-week Hot 100 record to become the third longest charting song with Jamaican born woman in the 21st century.
