AIDONIA WAS BRILLIANT AT REGGAE SUMFEST

Aidonia sounded a warning that he may be ready to graduate to the next level with a high-energy, well-rehearsed set during Reggae Sumfest’s Dancehall Night. With an armada of current hits like Fi Di Jockey and Tip Pan Yu Toe, Aidonia set the pace, and kept his energy level up throughout his onstage stint.

Beenie Man perhaps needs to think about revamping his entire set for future stage shows. Most dancehall pundits felt that he looked tired and exhausted during his set, just a shadow of the electrifying 150 minute performance that he gave at Usain Bolt’s Tracks and Records last week, but no matter what, he is still King of the Dancehall. He got roars of approval for a battery of hit songs, and commanded the audience at times during the set but he was unable to sustain that energy throughout.

Spice usually delivers the goods at the big shows, and she came prepared with a bubble dress, an Addi lookalike and her usual stage show antics. However, an untimely spill in 13 inch heels probably undid her, and she never fully recovered. She regained some of the crowd with the Addi lookalike stunt but overall, she failed to put a mark on her show and she was later eclipsed by an unapologetic and unrepentant Lady Saw.

While Macka Diamond failed to spark even though she had the biggest song this Summer, Bounty Killer was clearly in his element at Sumfest, delivering a scathing attack on gays during his performance. He set the platform for I Octane to close the festival with a dominant performance that showed that there is a clear change of the guards in dancehall.

Lady Saw and Assassin gave dominant performances during Dancehall Night at Reggae Sumfest. Lady Saw disses former lover John John and dissed fellow artiste Macka Diamond and delighted the crowd with her antics. Agent Sasco gave one of the best performances of his career, delivering hit after hit with great clarity and command of the stage. Beenie Man also gave a high energy performance that underlined why he is still King of the Dancehall.
