Montego Bay-based dancehall artiste Rickey Teetz feels confident his popular single, ‘Poverty Life’, that depicts the harsh, sometimes cruel conditions of the ghetto, will become an islandwide hit.

Bounty Killer resurrected ‘Saddle’, his signature celebrity stage show in 2006, joining forces with the non-profit organization Upliftment Jamaica, in a commitment to raise funds to aid in the transformation of the impoverished communities of Jamaica with quality education, health, and social welfare programs in addition to creating economic opportunities. The show had been held in St. Thomas but Bounty Killer was charged by the cops with breaches of the Town and Country Act for using abusive, and indecent language.

While I found the pictures disturbing, I feel that the knee jerk reaction of the school’s principal and his pre-emptive comments that he would dismiss all the students seen in the video is equally disturbing. Why should his first reaction be to punish these children who are perhaps in need of psychiatric counselling or at least, some sort of intervention to give them essential life skills if they are to become fully functional members of society. I believe that the principal and the entire school board should resign in shame because they have failed these kids.
