The NWC has advised that the areas affected by the disruption include Greater Portmore, Naggo Head, Old Braeton, Congreve Park, Silverstone, Portmore Pines, Monza, West Cumberland, Daytona and Ascott.

The commission said it is now asking for the understanding and co-operation of residents in the affected areas as investigations continue into this and other thefts over recent weeks.

The water utility said it is currently making arrangements for the replacement of seven other transformers that were recently stolen from the Government Park Well #2 facility, also in Portmore and connected to the Goshen Pen system.

It said the theft of the 10 electrical transformers over two weeks has effectively denied it access to approximately four million gallons of daily water production capacity, and disrupted service to thousands of customers.

The NWC said the brazen theft of the essential electrical components connected to the water supply system is particularly crippling. It said it will be forced to implement security measures to address the problem.
