Kootan drops 'Homa Mine' single Featured
Signed to Massyca Records, Kootan, whose real name is Richard Johnson, grew up in Kingston in a community called Kintyre. His childhood proved humble beginnings as he attended the Providence Primary and Papine Secondary School.
Kootan’s first love was always that of music and from the age of twelve he pursued and embraced a personal interest in music, making it more than a hobby but a lifestyle. He now lives in Seaview Garden which is dubbed Jamaica's music factory producing such musical legends and greats such as: Bounty Killer, Elephant Man, Nitty Kutchie and other dancehall notables.
“That sort of environment has provided the right mentality for me because is destiny, mi know say mi ah go mek it, this is just another clear sign that music is destined to be my life,” he said.
Being in the environment and surrounded by people in the music business it was inevitable that he was soon pinpointed as a potential dancehall success by Massyca Records who had justified faith in his talent and decided to work along with him.
Massyca Records, which consists of Pops and Scott, started producing songs for him such as "Homa Mine" on the Swaggy Swaggy rhythm and "Caah Seh Mi Lame" on the Orbitate rhythm in this year.
“My musical idol is Capleton because of the passion and energy him bring to the music,” Kootan said.
Kootan strives to maintain a unique musical style in an environment where there are new artistes emerging, he ensures that his lyrics and topics that he sing about are things that infuse personal passion so as to give his songs life and personality. Kootan expresses that he is not deterred by all the musical competition which surrounds him as they only inspire him to work harder and stand out.
Kootan’s song, Homa Mine has been in rotation on such stations as IRIE, HITZ, ZIP and LINKS FM. He is not a complete stranger to the business either he has appeared on stageshows such as GT Taylor’s Xtravaganza and community stage shows in the Seaview Gardens area.
