Will Jahvinci take his place as one of the greatest new voices of his generation??
Jahvinci first found fame as a member of the Portmore Empire, and during his tenure with the group, he made his mark in Europe, the USA and numerous Caribbean islands.
He first joined the group in 2009, making his debut at the HYPE 2000 show in Black River, St Elizabeth. He signed to the Portmore Empire and scored heavily with Weh Dem A Guh, his phenomenal new sound has captivated the attention of teenagers and music lovers all over the globe. He ollowed up that success with songs such as Money on the Storyteller rhythm and the recently released There for Me on the Birthday rhythm. But it was his worldwide number one dancehall hit, Watch Yu Friends, on the Remand medley that made Jahvinci a household name.
"Watch Yu Friends is still my biggest song and my favourite song, everything the song is saying, the lyrics in the song can relate to everybody. I always love cultural songs, that is the true Jah Vinci," said the artiste who first began his musical career as an artiste with the indie dancehall label 357 Records.
Other standout songs followed while in the Portmore Empire such as the touching radio hit, There for Me, which chronicles the true story of the death of his older brother, Mark Anthony White who died on February 9, 2005, which ironically marks the singer's birthday.
Last year, the 23-year-old singer, whose real name is André Kirk Rhoden, left the Portmore Empire and inked a deal with Corey Todd Records. One of his singles, the Notnice-produced 'In My Life', a semi-autobiographical take on his experiences with the Portmore, also soared to #1 on the HYPE TV Top 20 charts and the RE TV charts. The singer also performed at several shows in Barbados, Antigua, St. Lucia and St. Kitts in the last few months.
He has been working with a number of producers, including the talented Shiah Coore, as he continues to finetune his phenomenal sound. He is booked to appear at shows in England, Trinidad and St. Vincent this year. |
