DEATH OF AN ICON: Aretha Franklin is dead

Aretha Franklin, the undisputed "Queen of Soul" who sang with matchless style on such classics as "Think," ''I Say a Little Prayer" and her signature song, "Respect," and stood as a cultural icon around the globe, has died at age 76 from advanced pancreatic cancer.

Damian Crawford is going up against incumbent vice-presidents Dr Fenton Ferguson, Dr Wykeham McNeill, Angela Brown Burke; and fellow newcomers Phillip Paulwell and Mikael Phillips in the September 15 vote expected to be held at the National Arena in St Andrew, during the four-day annual conference of the PNP, which is celebrating its 80th year of existence.

  Veteran reggae singer Errol Dunkley will celebrate his 67th birthday with a star-filled concert on April 2nd at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre in Kingston.

Rayvon and Sugar Bear head off on 'Sugarcane' tour

Recording artistes Rayvon and Sugar Bear are creating waves internationally with the 'Sugar Cane' single. The duo launched the song before a fair-sized crowd at the Limelight nightclub in Half-Way-Tree in May and the the song has taken off. The single, Sugar Cane, a collaboration between deejay Sugar Bear and singer Rayvon has earned reviews from the public and music critics alike. Now the two head off to do a Sugarcane tour which will feature liver performances on a number of shows including Reggae Nights South Bay on Friday, July 14th at Redondo Beach Pier, Poom Poom Tuesdays on July 18th and Fayah Sundays on July 16th. 

Constable Herbert Hyman attached to the Mobile Reserve was shot and killed in Central Village on Monday, July 3, 2017. Reports are that the constable went to visit his baby mother when he was ambushed by gunmen in Windsor Heights.
