Sources indicate that a Haitian promoter, Joseph Kernizan, who sometimes promotes dancehall and reggae shows is one of the main suspects in the double homicide involving Jamaican dancehall artiste Wayne 'Captain Barkey' Hamilton in the Bronx, New York over the weekend.
The authorities said that Wayne Hamilton, 50, a reggae musician from Milwaukee, and Tracy Bennett, 38, from Long Island, were dead when the police arrived. The police did not speculate about a motive and did not indicate whether Mr. Hamilton and Ms. Bennett were acquainted, but issued a description of the shooter as a 42 year-old five foot five man weighing 220 pounds.
In the meantime, Barkey's friends are left to mourn his passing.
"I just spoke to Barkey's wife who lives in Milwaukee, she is making arrangements  to bring his body home. Right now, I am really worried about his mother who still lives in 8 West in Greater Portmore, she is distraught, overcome with grief," Barkey's close friend Wickerman said.
