Motorists are being asked to avoid the Mountain View area as there has been a flare-up of violence in the Pleasant Heights area of Mountain View.

There have been three shootings in separate incidents in the area over the last 48 hours as rival gunmen from Oliver Road and Jarrett Lane traded bullets for several hours.. The Constabulary Communication Unit (CCU) has confirmed the shootings.

Members of the police and military were deployed to Rockfort in East Kingston on Saturday in search of the criminals behind the violence in the area.

Residents of Oliver Road told one876News that the community was the scene of heavy gunfire on Friday evening.

Members of the military were deployed, alongside the police to quell the violence.

A senior officer told one876 News that the security forces are now patrolling the area. He said the violence was triggered by the shooting of a man from Jarrett Lane earlier this week.

Due to the violence, taxi operators who ply the Mountain View Avenue route have been avoiding the area. Other motorists are also avoiding Mountain View Avenue. In May of this year, an unidentified man was killed when rival gang members from Jarrett Lane and Oliver Road began trading bullets. The shootout continued for two hours. However, before this flare-up, there had been a lull in the violence in the Mountain View Avenue community over the last several weeks.
