It is a rare thing to hear of a deejay who holds down a regular nine to five while he tries to hone his craft to an exquisite edge sharp enough to please one of the toughest audiences in the world.

But Ultimate is the poster boy for the pursuit of dreams and perfection even against gigantic odds.

“Mi really love the direction of my career, I am getting airplay for Set Me Free from Roderick Howell from HITZ, and Digital Chris ah squeeze it off pon IRIE. The media is giving me good support as well, I did an interview on the Bounce on HITZ with Ijah Bingz and I got a great response from the public,” he said.

Earlier this year, The Ultimate scored his first major chart hit with the soulful Look Around You which debuted at  #18 on the RE TV reggae charts before making it all the way to the top ten. His followup single, Set Me Free, a serenely passionate song with powerful vocals, is also bubbling on a number of cable charts.

"It feels good to get my first major hit and ah mad ting because mi ah get crazy love in the streets from

mi co-workers, the thugs, and regular people. I have been putting in work, I strive for perfection in everything mi do and it is good to see that it is paying off," The Ultimate said.

But even with all the positive feedback he has been generating in the public, Ultimate still became the victim of a pair of armed robbers who robbed him of $100,000 in a community in Portmore in early August.

“They held a gun to my head and forced me into a car and drove to a canefield and told me to get out and ‘run’. Then they bussed two shots over my head and drove off,” he said, recounting the harrowing experience.

Despite this, The Ultimate remains undaunted in his musical mission.

"I'm on a mission. I want my music to uplift the youth and take them in a positive direction, and the people are responding, so I will not stop making positive music,” he said.

The Ultimate is also pressing ahead with his label, Black Q Records label in the hope that one day he can also help to break artistes into the music business.

“From the gas station to the radio station, ah de so my ting de, only through hard work can we achieve our goals, and achieve as a black nation,” he said.

His name is the Ultimate. Watch him soar.
