Minister Olivia Grange congratulates Kadijah Robinson

    Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport Olivia Grange has congratulated  Kadijah Robinson, Jamaica's representative to the Miss World pageant, for her stellar showing as she finished in the top five of the competition held in Sanya, China over the weekend.  

“It was an amazing feat securing a top 4 finish and gaining the Miss World Caribbean title, while being a wonderful exponent of our culture. Ms. Robinson had the entire Asian continent doing the Fling and other popular dances to an authentic dancehall beat...simply wonderful ,” Minister Grange said in a release.

 

“She has contributed to the brand of Jamaican excellence that has dominated the world. Ms. Robinson is a true ambassador of our rich cultural heritage on the international stage. We likkle but we tallawah!”

Miss Jamaica World Khadija Robinson, alongside Nurianne Arias Helder (Aruba), Morgane Theresine (Guadeloupe), and Jalyssa Arthurs (Belize), started their dance number with Flairy, a 2017 dance move created by Taje Pinnock, popularly known as 'Silent Ravers'.

 

Vanessa Ponce de Leon from Mexico was declared the winner, becoming the first Mexican queen to win the coveted title.

 

The other contestants who qualified to the final round at the 68th Miss World contest were Miss Belarus Maria Vasilech, Miss Uganda Quiin Abenakyo and Miss Thailand Nicolene Pichapa Limsnukan.

 

Ms. Robinson’s emphatic top five finish, and an energetic dance video alongside fellow contestants showing off the latest dancehall moves, have largely ignited widespread praise from Jamaicans across the diaspora who took to social media to commend the daughter of Black River, St Elizabeth.

 

Robinson, a physiotherapist at the Black River hospital in St Elizabeth, was also crowned Miss World Caribbean.
