A misbehaving minor who was boisterous and disobedient to her stepfather when she went to collect her lunch money triggered an incident which landed the stepfather in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrates' court earlier this week.

The stepfather was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm at common law.

The accused, Calvin Brown,  told Resident Magistrate Tara Reid Carr that the child came to the house and took off her uniform and placed it on the rail of the veranda. When told to remove them, the child started  opposing the request and provoked Simpson to use a piece of board to slap the child on the hand.

"Sir you cannot do that no matter how badly the child is behaving. It's against the law," the judge said.

The minor now resides with her father and Simpson was fined $10,000  or fourteen days imprisonment.
