Even as a slew of new Vybz Kartel songs hit the Internet this week, National Security Minister, Robert Montague, has declared that the days of illegally recorded songs making it out of the island's prison system are over. Wait, are you laughing yet? Read on.

In making his contribution to the Sectoral Debate in Parliament on Wednesday, Montague said the Department of Correctional Services has "stopped the recording of songs illegally".

Vybz Kartel, who is widely believed to have been recording songs while in prison, is in the eye of the growing firestorm of debate of privilege being accorded to Vybz Kartel because of his celebrity status. The growing debate led to the Loodi deejay being transferred from the Horizon Adult Remand Centre to the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre in November of last year over the same concerns.

Still, the authorities continue to deny what is so painfully obvious to the rest of the world. Commissioner of Corrections, Ina Hunter, said claims that Kartel has been recording from prison could only be regarded as speculation up to that point, as no evidence had emerged to confirm the suspicion.

At that time, she hinted that an ongoing investigation would eventually determine the truth of the matter, and promised that the findings will be made public.
