The case against Nordia Harris, a mother charged in the wrongful death of her infant daughter, was again mentioned in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrates Court this week and a successful bail application was granted.

Harris is alleged to have left her six month old daughter alone at their home in Gregory Park to purchase a Lasco around 12:45 p.m. The accused claimed that she had asked her neighbour to give an eye on the infant, but that argument was strongly refuted by the lady in question. The neighbour, in her sworn statement, said that it was customary for Harris to leave her children alone for extended periods.

At 2 p.m, a neighbour went to speak with Harris and upon calling repeatedly and not getting a response, looked through the bedroom window and saw the infant head down in a bucket of water.

Ms. Harris was called and told of the observation and the police summoned. The infant was pronounced dead on the scene.

Attorney Ricardo Sandcroft told the court that his client has been in custody since January and would be willing to relocate and adhere to all attachments of her bail condition.

She was granted bail in the sum of $500,000 with one to three sureties, a stop order placed at all ports of entry, she is to surrender travel documents and to report to the Ocho Rios Police Station on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The preliminary enquiry is set for March 9, 2016.
