General Secretary of the Jamaica Labour Party Dr. Horace Chang is raising concerns about widespread rumours regarding a change in the election results. Dr. Chang stated that there had been no change to the fact that the Jamaica Labour Party has won the popular vote and retains the majority of Parliamentary seats.

Dr. Chang spoke after receiving reports that tensions are being sowed by the PNP stating that the JLP has lost seats, which rumours are patently false. There are also rumours that attempts will be made using the courts to prevent the inauguration of Andrew Holness. He said “the people have rejected the PNP, yet we are hearing that they still seek to take power through the back door. We, as Jamaicans must be vigilant about any attempt to discredit the electoral process or to halt the prompt and effective transition of government in the interests of the Jamaican people.”

While expressing concerns regarding the speed at which the count has been proceeding, Dr. Chang stated that he had full confidence in the electoral process and noted that several independent observers including the OAS, ranked the election as free and fair.

He called on Jamaicans to remain calm during the re-count process and to dismiss rumours being circulated by agents of the PNP that the final count process underway is resulting in a change in the elected government.

He stated :"even the reported loss of Dr. Norman Dunn by 9 votes has not affected the majority of the government, and we also feel confident that that result will be overturned at the end of the Magistrate's recount. There have been no further changes regarding the victorious party."
