A man was sentenced to six months at hard labour even though he made an impassioned plea to senior Resident Magistrate Lyle Armstrong.

"Your honour, I'm sorry for what I did and I promise it will not happen again. A real thing your honour I just want to go back in the society and get a work and continue with my life your honour," John Edwards said, before he was sentenced in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrates' court on Monday, April 19th.

Allegations outlined were that in March 2014, the accused who was known to the complainant saw her in Portsmouth, St. Catherine and attacked her with a machete. He chopped her two times on the left shoulder and once in the head.

The matter was reported to the Waterford police and she received medical attention at the Spanish Town hospital.

"Young man, I have taken in consideration that you have been in lock up from March 2014 and also that you didn't waste the court's time and pleaded guilty on your first appearance. Take the time and reflect on your life and don't let me see you again," RM Armstrong advised.
