A man chopped his cheating girlfriend recently after he found that she had had an affair with one of his friends.  "My lord, this lady was nothing and I took her up and turn her into a woman and we build a house together and she go deh wid mi fern," shouted an accused man when he appeared in the Spanish Town RM Court recently.

His earnest declaration had the court in an uproar.

Patrick Beale, charged with wounding with intent, has been in custody since March 27, 2015, and was making an impassioned plea to be granted bail.

It is alleged that on the day in question, Beale went to the house and an argument developed between him and his girlfriend over her cheating with him with one of his friends. She was pushed and punched repeatedly all over her body, then a fight ensued and the accused man used a machete to chop the complainant in the head, hand and shoulder.

The complainant managed to escape and shouted "murder" and the said friend, with whom she is being accused of having a carnal relationship with, came to her rescue.

Beale, who has three previous convictions, all of a similar nature, was told by Senior Resident Magistrate Lyle Armstrong that "the safety of the complainant, his court appearances and the severity of the case, along with his previous convictions could not allow her at this time to consider bail".

"Please, my lord I am asking you to look into my situation and grant me bail, please my lord," he please, his face an essay of pain and regret. But the judge would not be moved.

Mr. Beale will return to court on January 21, 2016 when he is expected to produce a medical statement outlining the condition of his lungs.
